Vintage Typewriter

How many of you remember typing on one of these?  Believe it or not I learned to type on one of these typewriters in my first year of typing and I'm not that old!

The Olympia Typewriter Company began in Germany in 1903.  By 1943 the company was doing quite well and selling lots of typewriters, but then World War II came along and their factory suffered some damage as a result of the bombings and eventually the East German government took control over the company and renamed it Optima.  Several employees of Olympia fled to West Germany where they continued to make Olympia typewriters until 1992.

Enjoy!

  1. I remember typing on one my mom had when I was a little girl, lots of fun. I was so sad the day the last typewriter factory closed, an end of an area.
