Summer Lovin' Essentials + Beach Towel Giveaway

Hi friends! I hope enjoyed your weekend! This weekend we had gray skies and lots of humidity, so we stayed inside mostly, playing with the puppy and then went to the mall + out to dinner on Saturday evening. It was enjoyable and relaxing! I also started watching Mad Men on Netflix. My husband has seen it all the way through, but I never had, so since I love the 50's, I thought I'd like it. So far, I really like the show but I want to whack the men!!! Not cool. I'm hoping there is some character growth ;)
ANYWAYS...
This week marks my 7th year of blogging-- holy cow! That time has flown by. If you had told me I'd STILL be blogging 7 years ago, I wouldn't have believed you. I love, love, love this little blog because it means I get to take all of my passion God has given me for design, the home, people, style, entertaining and hosting, community and more, and bottle it up in little posts here for others to see and hopefully enjoy. If you're interested in starting a blog or have a small creative business where you think you should start a blog to support that business, I say go for it! That's what we teach at The Bloom Workshop, as I believe it's so vital to your business. I thought I'd link to a few posts over the years about blogging, incase you're interested in getting some tips:

But now for the really exciting part of the post, in order to celebrate this blog and say THANK YOU to you for reading, I'm hosting a new giveaway each day this week! I truly wouldn't have continued on if it weren't for my incredible readers. I've loved getting to know you through comments and emails over the years. First up is one of my very favorite things -- well ALL of the things I'm giving away are my favorite things. But we're kicking off the week with a Beach Bum Towel Co. giveaway! These beach towels are made by one of my sweet friends, Erin. I just love her to pieces and used to work for her wedding planning company when I lived in San Francisco. She's SO creative and talented, so that creativity spilled right into developing her own towel design.
The Beach Bum Towels are incredibly soft, thick (a huge plus for me!), and long (a huge plus for my 6'3" husband!) and are really cute. The boho vibe is so fun for summer. A lucky winner will get to pick one beach bum towel (either mint or coral). You can enter on my Instagram today!

All this beach towel talk has me so thankful it's summer! As a born and raised California girl and now living in Michigan with frequent trips to the lake, this is the weather I live for. I rounded up some outdoor beach and patio finds + some cute suits and coverups on sale. Nearly everything here is on sale...hooray!

Whimsical Summer Utah Wedding of Doloris Petunia designer, Courtney Prince

I'm absolutely positive you guys already know and love the stunning, jaw-dropping work of Doloris Petunia, the couture bauble line created by jewelry genius Courtney Prince. Well, you're in for a treat because Courtney and I have been chatting a bit and today she is graciously sharing her wedding story with us! Keep an eye out for the many sweet details Courtney and her groom, Ryan, included in their Park City wedding - the flower girl dresses and bridal cuff are from her own line! / Photos by Pepper Nix.

Says Courtney, "My flower girl dresses were the first girls' dresses I had ever designed - my hope was to have them look like little twinkling stars.

When planning the wedding we knew we wanted a hip venue that would be a fun summer trip for our out-of-state friends and family. We also didn't want a lot of extra unnecessary fuss and instead wanted the wedding to feel like the party that was thrown together maybe just the night before - not overly planned out … sort of the feeling that if your dearest friends decided to get married at your house tomorrow - what would you pull out from the cupboards and cut from the garden to make the space beautiful and inviting. Growing up in Utah, I always knew I wanted to get married there - luckily for me, Ryan was on board after the first time he visited with me to ski in the mountains of Park City.

Leading into the wedding I learned how to cast metal out of carved wax and custom made to measure my husbands wedding band. I also created hand cast necklaces for each of my bridesmaids; gold pendants with their astrological constellation etched out with pave diamonds. Navy blue is my favorite color and so I let my girlfriends just pick out a dress that they all loved in that shade.

We enlisted the help of astronomer friends for our invitations and programs and had letterpressed illustrations of constellations that would actually be in the night sky over Utah on the night of our wedding.

The day of our wedding, the chuppa that we were married under was made by our friends and family out of aspen tree stocks with fresh quaking aspen leaves making up the arbor. We spent a few months before sourcing vintage oriental rugs and runners for the aisle, altar and throughout the reception space to bring the feeling of a home to the outside space (We now use these to fill our actual home).

Besides a vintage pair of sapphire earrings lent to me by my grandmother, my only other accessory was a custom cuff that I made out of vintage jewelry and treasured tidbits that were significant to me.

Courtney + Ryan's Love Story

Ryan and I meet after being set up on a blind date by mutual friends when we were both living and working in New York City (we have been together pretty much every day since).

We filled the reception tables with every kind of greenery and white flower in mismatched vases. We strung fellini lights on a grid of aspen tree stocks that we used to fill the reception and dance floor and dangled hand cut vintage copper star table numbers above each table.

For the save-the-date cards we had a good friend draw an illustration of us meant to mimic an old time ski resort poster. We had miniature versions of that same image printed up and placed on all of the bottles of wine that were served.

It was a beautiful 'official' beginning to the wonderful life together that my husband and I now share in Los Angeles with our 20-month-old son."

Chic Hamptons Summer Wedding by Trent Bailey Photography

I can't think of a better way to start this week than by sharing this elegantly sublime Montauk wedding. After years of long distance love, Stephanie and Zach both found themselves in NYC and couldn't wait to wed any longer. Amalia Dayan (Stephanie's boss and Luxembourg & Dayan gallery owner) and her husband graciously offered their Montauk estate overlooking the Atlantic for the ceremony venue. Stephanie and Zach started working closely with Lauren Sozmen, of Loli Events, and a truly unforgettable day was planned. / Photos by Trent Bailey Photography.

Stephanie's custom gown was made by her incredibly talented friend, the young designer Katie Ermilio, and her birdcage veil was designed by another talented friend of hers, Satya Twena. She wore nude Christian Louboutin wedges.

The most recognized of the art pieces at Amalia Dayan's beautiful Montauk estate is 'Untitled (Lamp/Bear),' the creation of Swiss artist Urs Fischer. This piece used to live on Park Avenue in Manhattan.

Stephanie + Zach's Love Story

Says the couple, "We met in high school in New York a few months before Zach left for college on the East Coast and we stayed very good friends throughout college despite my having left for the West Coast a year later. We even met in Istanbul when I was a senior visiting my father in Paris and Zach was in graduate school in London. Six months later, I was preparing for my own move to London for graduate school and Zach was moving back to New York for law school, and our relationship really started to evolve -- he knew all about London, but was also imparting all his wisdom for an upcoming family graduation trip to Israel and we started spending a lot more time talking on the phone. However, nothing that summer went as planned. My family had to cancel our vacation and we ended up in the Dominican Republic (bad idea - it’s the rainy season!), only to learn soon after our arrival that my grandfather had passed away (not to mention that in the midst of all of this my housing in London fell through). It was then that I realized the only person I wanted to speak to about all of this was Zach - and we hadn’t even started dating. Another six months passed, and after endless hours on skype, I flew to New York to visit Zach because I needed to figure out what was going on between us. I booked my ticket on Wednesday, arrived in New York on Friday, and the first thing Zach did when he saw me was kiss me. Despite my pleas that we could not date because we were never in the same place, we spent the next several years in a long long-distance while finishing our studies and embarking on our careers - we did London-New York, San Francisco-New York, a brief year of New York-New York, followed by New York-DC, where Zach went for a 2-year government fellowship. Finally in the summer of 2011, Zach returned to New York, we moved in together in September, and in February shortly after our 5-year anniversary, Zach proposed in our new home. By then we were eager to get married as quickly as possible!

When the gallery founder and her husband offered their Montauk home to us as a potential wedding venue, I knew our search was over and it would be perfect. The backyard is filled with incredible contemporary sculpture and the view of the Atlantic was stunning.

We wanted an intimate wedding that focused on bringing our friends and family from around the globe together and a day that reflected our mutual desire to do things in a slightly non-traditional manner. We also wanted to incorporate our many talented family and friends into the preparations and festivities. We were married by Rabbi Sarna, the NYU Hillel rabbi - a friend and now colleague of Zach’s, under the huppah we built with my step-father and from which hung our fathers’ prayer shawls. Our friend played all of the music at the ceremony [...] and as a sweet end to our day, my mother baked all of the brownies and pies on our dessert bar to accompany the wedding cake!"

Says Lauren Sozmen, of Loli Events: "After the ceremony, guests went to The Inn at Windmill Lane in Amagansett where they were greeted with a lavender champagne cocktail and a handwritten note from the newlyweds. The overall feel of the reception was understated luxury. There were day beds, rattan furniture, Moroccan blankets & lanterns through out the perfectly manicured gardens. The receptions had nods to lavender and figs through food, drinks, flowers and scented candles, to pay tribute to the brides family vacation home in Ibiza. Guests enjoy lavish Mediterranean style stations and danced the evening away. To finish off this perfect day, guests joined around the fire pits in large adirondack chairs to make s’mores."
