Whimsical Summer Utah Wedding of Doloris Petunia designer, Courtney Prince

I'm absolutely positive you guys already know and love the stunning, jaw-dropping work of Doloris Petunia, the couture bauble line created by jewelry genius Courtney Prince. Well, you're in for a treat because Courtney and I have been chatting a bit and today she is graciously sharing her wedding story with us! Keep an eye out for the many sweet details Courtney and her groom, Ryan, included in their Park City wedding - the flower girl dresses and bridal cuff are from her own line! / Photos by Pepper Nix.

Says Courtney, "My flower girl dresses were the first girls' dresses I had ever designed - my hope was to have them look like little twinkling stars.

ps. As you can clearly see, Courtney has the cutest line of flower girl dresses - tune in tomorrow for a look at my favorites from her current line! ;)

When planning the wedding we knew we wanted a hip venue that would be a fun summer trip for our out-of-state friends and family. We also didn't want a lot of extra unnecessary fuss and instead wanted the wedding to feel like the party that was thrown together maybe just the night before - not overly planned out … sort of the feeling that if your dearest friends decided to get married at your house tomorrow - what would you pull out from the cupboards and cut from the garden to make the space beautiful and inviting. Growing up in Utah, I always knew I wanted to get married there - luckily for me, Ryan was on board after the first time he visited with me to ski in the mountains of Park City.

Leading into the wedding I learned how to cast metal out of carved wax and custom made to measure my husbands wedding band. I also created hand cast necklaces for each of my bridesmaids; gold pendants with their astrological constellation etched out with pave diamonds. Navy blue is my favorite color and so I let my girlfriends just pick out a dress that they all loved in that shade.

We enlisted the help of astronomer friends for our invitations and programs and had letterpressed illustrations of constellations that would actually be in the night sky over Utah on the night of our wedding.

The day of our wedding, the chuppa that we were married under was made by our friends and family out of aspen tree stocks with fresh quaking aspen leaves making up the arbor. We spent a few months before sourcing vintage oriental rugs and runners for the aisle, altar and throughout the reception space to bring the feeling of a home to the outside space (We now use these to fill our actual home).

Besides a vintage pair of sapphire earrings lent to me by my grandmother, my only other accessory was a custom cuff that I made out of vintage jewelry and treasured tidbits that were significant to me.

Courtney + Ryan's Love Story
Ryan and I meet after being set up on a blind date by mutual friends when we were both living and working in New York City (we have been together pretty much every day since).

We filled the reception tables with every kind of greenery and white flower in mismatched vases. We strung fellini lights on a grid of aspen tree stocks that we used to fill the reception and dance floor and dangled hand cut vintage copper star table numbers above each table.

For the save-the-date cards we had a good friend draw an illustration of us meant to mimic an old time ski resort poster. We had miniature versions of that same image printed up and placed on all of the bottles of wine that were served.

It was a beautiful 'official' beginning to the wonderful life together that my husband and I now share in Los Angeles with our 20-month-old son."

Preppy Southern (and Rainy!) Wedding in Orlando, Fla.

Aside from the darling preppy details of this Florida wedding, I really love how Karin and Ethan ended up embracing the unwanted rain on their wedding day. They had to completely change their plans, including their venue, but they made it work beautifully and the love is so apparent. / Photos by Kristen Weaver.

Says photographer Kristen Weaver, "I walked into Karin and Ethan’s wedding day with the most excited attitude. I had been talking to Karin about her preppy details forever – navy blue, coral, wildflowers and monograms – I was just in detail heaven.

Then it rained. No, seriously. I mean … RAINED. All day, heavily. And Karin and Ethan had to adapt their entire wedding to the ever-changing Florida weather. Not a single thing stayed the same, including their venue! Although they initially planned to hold their ceremony outside under the gazebo on the lake, where Ethan had proposed, everything got moved inside.

But here’s the best part … I couldn’t think of a better couple for this to happen to! The small ceremony space literally had them engulfed by family, completely immersed in love and verse, and surrounded with love. So although things didn’t work exactly according to plan, the truth is that they worked, exactly as it was supposed to. Karin and Ethan had a beautiful day and we were honored to be a part of it!"

Karin's 'something old' was her grandmother’s diamond ring.

Says Karin, "I found my dress on Pinterest while looking for ideas and when I saw the dress I just loved it. I went to two bridal stores and the second one had the dress. While I liked a dress at the first store, I still had the dress in my mind. When I tried it on I just knew that it was perfect!

We choose bridesmaids and groomsmen who helped make us the people we are today. Also, people who we knew would support our marriage and be there for us as a couple. We looked around at different bridesmaid dresses but I loved the ones at J.Crew. I wanted the dresses to all be the same color but allow the bridesmaids to choose their own style.

The most memorable moment was when my husband and I decided to have a spontaneous first look. We planned on having a first touch so we could pray together without seeing each other. But when it started to rain and continued, I suddenly became overwhelmed so we decided to have a first look. It was so emotional and special that I am glad we did it that way.

We had family photos on the mantel inside the house and ended up getting married in front of them. Which was very special because there was a picture of my grandparents, who passed before our wedding.

Karin + Ethan's Love Story
We met working at a conference for high school students while we were both in college. For five weeks, we worked alongside a team of interns and became good friends, but we lived 9 hours apart and went back to school for the fall. We stayed in touch and eventually started talking more and more. Ethan came to visit me one weekend, then we started dating. Six months later, we got engaged.

We loved our location so much that Ethan proposed there. We wanted a southern preppy style. The location was an estate house with a beautiful lake in the back yard, which is located in Cypress Grove Park. We also wanted a clean crisp look, so we went with a lot of white and had navy chevron runners on the tables with pops of coral in the flowers."

Karin's advice: "The week before your wedding, don’t stress! It is easier said than done, but its time to start enjoying everything and to spend less time worrying. No matter what happens, the night is you and your husbands."

Karin and Ethan honeymooned in Jamaica for their honeymoon! :)
