Creating a Meaningful Vintage Wedding | Focus: Shopping for Cooks + Foodies

I'm back with another installment for the Meaningful Weddings Series! Missed the first post about the framework of creating a meaningful vintage wedding (+ a focus for book lovers)? Just click the link to catch up. ;) Today, the focus is on couples who love to cook (or just eat, hah!). Maybe your love is attending culinary school or is already a chef or maybe the two of you just love to try new foods during your travels ... whatever the draw, your passion is food so why not play that up with your wedding theme? If you're not sure how translate the love of food into a darling wedding theme, fret no more, my loves - I'm going to show you exactly how. ;) To get your thoughts flowing, let's take a look at a few fantastic floral vessels and props that would be both beautiful and symbolic for a chef's wedding:

Vintage French food tins lend style to a laidback affair - I love this red and yellow Bouillon Kub tin!

Antique French enamel salt boxes are incredibly charming - just drop a few peonies or hydrangea heads in and you're good to go!

A small French chocolat tin would look pretty sprinkled among floral arrangements.

An antique French zinc bottle-drying rack can easily become a beautiful flowering tower!

Vintage wooden crates are just begging for flowers!

Vintage kitchen scales are adorable and would look great holding a bouquet or mixed in with the floral arrangements. Shop all three and several more in my shop. ;)

Hope these ideas got you thinking on how you can make your wedding more meaningful! The thing I love most is that all of these pretties could easily become treasured family heirlooms - maybe you'd just choose one item and gift it to your love as a wedding gift to include in the wedding and later, in your home. Hope you'll share how you would give a chef or foodie's wedding a meaningful spin! xx.

Colorful Earrings for Brides + Bridesmaids by Doloris Petunia

Maybe I should re-name this week the Doloris Petunia week on CB - I just can't help it, Courtney has so many darling details that I think would be perfect for your big day! Today I wanted to share her earring line which I think embodies the essence and glamour of Old Hollywood and I think they'd be so fun to add a bit of color to a bride's ensemble. The honeybee style is also sweet for bridesmaids and the colors can be customized to match your wedding palette. Here's a peek at my favorites but you can shop the full earring line here.

Which is your favorite?

Whimsical Summer Utah Wedding of Doloris Petunia designer, Courtney Prince

I'm absolutely positive you guys already know and love the stunning, jaw-dropping work of Doloris Petunia, the couture bauble line created by jewelry genius Courtney Prince. Well, you're in for a treat because Courtney and I have been chatting a bit and today she is graciously sharing her wedding story with us! Keep an eye out for the many sweet details Courtney and her groom, Ryan, included in their Park City wedding - the flower girl dresses and bridal cuff are from her own line! / Photos by Pepper Nix.

Says Courtney, "My flower girl dresses were the first girls' dresses I had ever designed - my hope was to have them look like little twinkling stars.

ps. As you can clearly see, Courtney has the cutest line of flower girl dresses - tune in tomorrow for a look at my favorites from her current line! ;)

When planning the wedding we knew we wanted a hip venue that would be a fun summer trip for our out-of-state friends and family. We also didn't want a lot of extra unnecessary fuss and instead wanted the wedding to feel like the party that was thrown together maybe just the night before - not overly planned out … sort of the feeling that if your dearest friends decided to get married at your house tomorrow - what would you pull out from the cupboards and cut from the garden to make the space beautiful and inviting. Growing up in Utah, I always knew I wanted to get married there - luckily for me, Ryan was on board after the first time he visited with me to ski in the mountains of Park City.

Leading into the wedding I learned how to cast metal out of carved wax and custom made to measure my husbands wedding band. I also created hand cast necklaces for each of my bridesmaids; gold pendants with their astrological constellation etched out with pave diamonds. Navy blue is my favorite color and so I let my girlfriends just pick out a dress that they all loved in that shade.

We enlisted the help of astronomer friends for our invitations and programs and had letterpressed illustrations of constellations that would actually be in the night sky over Utah on the night of our wedding.

The day of our wedding, the chuppa that we were married under was made by our friends and family out of aspen tree stocks with fresh quaking aspen leaves making up the arbor. We spent a few months before sourcing vintage oriental rugs and runners for the aisle, altar and throughout the reception space to bring the feeling of a home to the outside space (We now use these to fill our actual home).

Besides a vintage pair of sapphire earrings lent to me by my grandmother, my only other accessory was a custom cuff that I made out of vintage jewelry and treasured tidbits that were significant to me.

Courtney + Ryan's Love Story
Ryan and I meet after being set up on a blind date by mutual friends when we were both living and working in New York City (we have been together pretty much every day since).

We filled the reception tables with every kind of greenery and white flower in mismatched vases. We strung fellini lights on a grid of aspen tree stocks that we used to fill the reception and dance floor and dangled hand cut vintage copper star table numbers above each table.

For the save-the-date cards we had a good friend draw an illustration of us meant to mimic an old time ski resort poster. We had miniature versions of that same image printed up and placed on all of the bottles of wine that were served.

It was a beautiful 'official' beginning to the wonderful life together that my husband and I now share in Los Angeles with our 20-month-old son."

GIVEAWAY | Custom Canvas from MILK Books

Happy Monday! Today I'm thrilled to team up with the lovely folks from MILK Books to show you just how gorgeous their canvases are AND to launch an exclusive CB contest offering one lucky reader a free custom canvas of their own! [Scroll to the bottom for the details on the giveaway!] Now let's take a look at the canvas gallery wall I recently created from some favorite photos I took while living in Europe:

I probably took over a million photos (no joke!) during the three years J&I lived abroad and sadly, the images have mostly just existed in forgotten facebook albums - does that happen to you, too? For almost a year, I've been meaning to choose some favorites and decide on a way to display them in our loft. Luckily, the lovely folks at MILK had just the answer and with their help, I made six black-and-white square canvases and I think they turned out great!

ps. I think creating a gallery wall of travel photos like I did would be the perfect way to pay homage to your honeymoon memories so snap away!

I chose to go with the large square option (16 x 16") canvases from MILK. All six arrived neatly packaged and as soon as I removed the wrapping, I was struck by the sharp, crisp detail and the luxe quality of the matte pure cotton canvas. I also like that they use treated pine framing to provide a strong structure. MILK also offers canvases in a smaller size (12 x 12") and a larger landscape style (20 x 16").

Curious about the company? I love the sweet story of how MILK came to be: "Award-winning publisher Geoff Blackwell wanted to create a book to celebrate his father’s seventieth birthday. To do so he joined forces with his brothers and their families, and found collaborating with them and then surprising his dad with the book to be one of the most memorable and moving experiences of his life. This occasion inspired Geoff to create a print-on-demand book service allowing people from all over the world to collaborate to create their own books. His dream was to produce truly exceptional books made with the finest available paper and bound the old-fashioned way with center-stitched binding that lasts for generations. He and fellow publisher Ruth Hobday partnered with Moleskine and Moleskine + MILK was born."

Lastly, I thought I'd share a bit about the images I chose to have printed. Narrowing it down to just six images to spotlight was really tough but I knew I only wanted to highlight trips that J&I had gone on together and that we had truly enjoyed. So, together we chose a mix from the following trips: Paris / Santorini / Venice / Tropea, Italy / Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany / Venice (again!) ps. If you click the links, they'll take you to my honeymoon guides for each locale. ;)

Excited to get started on your own gallery wall? Or maybe you want to have that favorite engagement or wedding photo printed on canvas? Well, here's your chance to get started!

Just enter the contest below for your chance to win a large square canvas (16 x 16") from MILK Books! You have until Monday, Sept. 1, 2014 at midnight CST to enter. Contest is limited to domestic US locations. A winner will be selected and announced on Sept. 2, 2014! Just revisit this post to see if you won. Good luck! xx
